Kai Stenmark is a Northern California-based artist known for capturing the dynamic and diverse coastal landscapes of the region. Living along the rugged coastline where redwood forests meet the Pacific, Kai's work reflects the intersection of land and sea that defines the California coast: powerful waves, dramatic cliffs, and the surfers who brave these waters. His imagery captures moments of intense action as well as quiet reflection, offering viewers a glimpse into the soul of NorCal surf and coastal culture.
Artist statement
Northern California's coast is a place of contrasts, where the vastness of the Pacific meets towering forests, and where the ocean's fury can be both a challenge and a sanctuary. My work is a tribute to this unique landscape and to the surfers who are part of my personal ecosystem. Each image is a study of the relationship between human resilience and the raw power of nature. The light in this region has a way of transforming the familiar into something otherworldly: fog rolling in over cliffs, waves crashing against rocky outcrops, the sun setting over an endless horizon.
