A woman in draped linen holds a metal sphere at eye level and reads it like an instrument. The visor across her brow is part optical device, part crown. Behind her, a painted wall has worn back to plaster, and the whole scene sits in pale stone, chalk white and soft gold.
The oracle at Delphi was, in practice, an interface: people went there to ask something larger than themselves and came back with an answer they had to interpret. A screen does that job now. So I gave her a sphere and had her calibrate it: checking it, adjusting it, holding it at working distance rather than kneeling in front of it.
